Keepers
Thibaut Courtois (90 GK) is the only 90 keeper in the men’s 27 and the S pick on paper. Gianluigi Donnarumma (89) at Manchester City is A. Jan Oblak (88) is A-to-B. On the women’s list, Ann-Katrin Berger (87) and Hannah Hampton (87) are the keeper conversation; Hampton is the published +3.
A 90 keeper does not fix a high line you cannot jockey. Put ten Kick-Off minutes on Competitive before you spend FUT coins on Courtois and still dive with the second man.
S and A centre-backs
Gabriel (89 CB, Arsenal) is the highest men’s CB in the 27. Willian Pacho (89 CB, PSG) shares 89. William Saliba (88) and Virgil van Dijk (88) are the 88s everyone will still start. Van Dijk’s drop out of the 90s is the argument, not a reason to bench him on day one.
Mapi León (88 CB) is the women’s S defender. Irene Paredes (87) is A. If you play women’s or mixed sides, León is not optional flavour.

Full-backs
Nuno Mendes (89 LB) is the top listed full-back overall. Achraf Hakimi (88 RB) is the 88. Ona Batlle (87 RB) is the women’s full-back in the 27. Full-backs will swing harder with the new attacking awareness — they have to recover after a curved run. Budget stamina in Career more than in a FUT game.
Why Competitive defending changes the rank
If teammate AI stops covering your mistakes, pace plus positioning beats a 90 who turns like a fridge. That is why an 88 Saliba can play above a slower 89 on a given patch. We will not invent pace numbers EA did not publish for every CB. When attributes drop, this page should be updated from those sheets, not from memory.
Slide tackling as a panic tool will be worse if interception radius is the real skill. The controls practice block is the actual ranking tool.
Building a first back five
- Pick a keeper you can afford (Oblak is a fine gold).
- Pair one 88–89 CB with one you packed for Gallery.
- Do not force both 89 CBs if it breaks chemistry — Ultimate Team Gallery Sets pay for league loyalty.
- Full-backs last. Mendes is nice; a 84 who can run is nicer than a 88 who is on 2 chemistry.
