The Grounds in EA SPORTS FC 27

A shared football playground for up to 100 players — current-gen only.

The Grounds

The Grounds is the largest structural change in EA SPORTS FC 27. EA describes it as a football playground where streets meet stadiums: up to 100 players share a persistent space, drop into small-sided matches without a menu stack, and walk into Clubs instead of waiting in a lobby. It is not an open-world RPG the size of a city sim. Think of a social hub with three football districts, a central Terrace, and live pitches you can spectate from the sideline.

Platform lock first: The Grounds, including Clubs, is on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2 only. PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch keep the rest of FC 27 but skip this hub. If that is a deal-breaker, read platforms before you pre-order last-gen.

Districts and the Terrace

EA built three districts around real football cultures, linked by a central Terrace:

  • Parkside — a working-class British setting for park pitches and local kickabouts.
  • Montclair — cage football in a Parisian cityscape.
  • Zeiza — Argentine potrero culture, makeshift fields, tight spaces.

You move on foot. Clothing shops, drop-in pitches, and Club access points sit in the world rather than in a nested UI. Drop Kick Targets — neon rings that spawn as you walk — are the idle skill check while you wait for friends.

Clubs live inside the world

Clubs is not deleted. It is relocated. Your Clubhouse sits next to the spawn flow EA showed in the Deep Dive, so 11v11 leagues and playoffs remain, but you no longer need a full squad online to exist in the mode. Stadium Drop-In still matchmakes Rush, Rush Live Tournaments, and 11v11. Clubs Live Tournaments add themed 11v11 events: No Rules, Headers and Volleys, Survival, Long Range, and rotating rule sets.

Club success is meant to show on the grounds: stadium and clubhouse upgrades, visibility, recruitment while you spectate live matches. If you only care about competitive 11v11, you can treat The Grounds as a prettier front door. If you care about social football, the door is the mode.

Ways to play

Small-sided football: 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, and Rush, typically three-minute games that pay Grounds Coins and Archetype XP. Rush in the world is a dirt-pitch variant, separate from Stadium Rush.

Kickabouts mix football with other sports. Confirmed toys include Bucket Ball, Bocce Ball, Balloon Ball, Team Keepaway, Goal Control, The Big Race, Attacking Scenarios, and Drop Kick Targets. These are not ranked FUT. They exist so a Club of mixed skill can stay in the same space.

Mentors, Amps, and Masteries

Four mentors gate activities:

  • Kylian Mbappé — local football activities.
  • Chloe Kelly — world activities.
  • Paulo Dybala — Clubs.
  • Alex Hunter — player-improvement challenges, a callback to The Journey rather than a full story reboot.

Archetypes return from FC 26 and expand. Amps add abilities even when they sit outside a position’s usual kit — EA’s example was a Roberto Carlos-style Power Shot on an archetype that would not normally have it. Masteries are longer-term unique profiles. Progression currencies include Archetype XP, Grounds Coins, Amps, and permanent Masteries. EA has said clothing that can be bought with real money also has an earn path in Grounds Coins. Treat that as the published stance until a live economy patch says otherwise.

How to start on day one

  1. Create a Pro you are willing to look at for a season. Cosmetics are a loop here.
  2. Walk the Terrace, then pick one district to learn the pitch sizes.
  3. Complete a mentor intro so Amps are not a mystery during Clubs.
  4. Enter the Clubhouse and either join a Club or queue Stadium Drop-In.
  5. If friends are late, play Kickabouts instead of returning to the main menu.

Pair this page with Getting Started for edition timing, controls so defending in 1v1 does not feel like FUT, and Career Mode only if you expected The Grounds to replace Player Career — it does not. FUT players can ignore most Kickabouts and still use the same match engine; see Ultimate Team.

The official Deep Dive above is the source for district names, player cap, and Clubs integration. When Title Updates change drop-in rules after launch, what’s new will note them. Until 25 September 2026, plan around the Pitch Notes, not leaked maps.

EA’s Deep Dive describes up to 100 players across the Terrace and three districts.
