EA SPORTS FC 27 FC 27 Kick-Off and Lite
The fastest way to feel the new pitch — and the free preview that is not the full game.
Kick-Off is still the mode you open when you want a match without a transfer window or a pack animation. In EA SPORTS FC 27 it is also the classroom for everything the Closed Beta Pitch Notes just changed: Team Press in your own third, side-by-side Bruiser, manual dinks, and corners that no longer drag you to the ball. FC 27 Lite is the free, limited preview that uses Kick-Off as its confirmed mode. It is not Career. It is not Football Ultimate Team. It is not The Grounds.
This page is the how-to for both. Dates live on release date. Edition upgrades live on pre-order. Button-level defending lives on controls.
How to start a Kick-Off match
From the FC 27 Home menu, choose Kick-Off. Pick a match type, choose sides (Home or Away), pick clubs or national teams, then set camera, half length, and Competitive versus Authentic before you kick off. Local friends can join on extra controllers from the side-select screen. That flow is the same idea as recent years; EA has not published a redesigned Kick-Off lobby as a Deep Dive of its own.
Match types coverage for FC 27 lists:
- Classic Match — eleven-a-side, standard rules, the default for learning the new defending.
- Rush — 5v5 on a smaller pitch, faster restarts, the same family as Stadium Rush inside Clubs / The Grounds.
- Best Of series — a three- or five-match set if you want a session rather than a single friendly.
Team sheets, stadium select, and custom sliders sit in the pre-match settings. If you are testing the Closed Beta changes, use Competitive, leave Team Press unbound as a panic toggle, and pick a stadium you can actually see the flight of a corner on. New scans such as Stade Louis II are listed on licenses.
What FC 27 Lite actually is
EA’s FAQ: FC 27 Lite is a free-to-download limited preview of FC 27 at launch. You can explore selected modes — Kick-Off is the one they named — and upgrade to the full game at any time from inside that preview.
- When: 25 September 2026 at 16:00 UTC (the Standard launch, not early access).
- Where: PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, EA App, Steam, and Epic Games Store.
- Not listed: Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. Do not expect a Lite tile on those storefronts until EA says otherwise.
- Needs: an internet connection to download and an EA account. Age ratings still apply.
Lite is the successor to the old Showcase idea: enough football to feel the pitch, not enough progress to skip buying the game. Additional Lite modes may be named closer to launch. Until EA publishes that list, assume Kick-Off only and you will not be disappointed.
What Lite cannot do
You cannot start a Career save, open Football Ultimate Team, walk The Grounds, or join Clubs from Lite. You cannot claim the Ultimate early-access week by downloading Lite on 18 September — Lite is a 25 September SKU. EA Play’s 10-hour trial is a different product; it starts 18 September and EA highlighted The Grounds for that trial, which Lite does not include.
If you write a “FC 27 review” from Lite, you are reviewing Kick-Off. Say so. The first look page exists so that mistake does not land on this wiki as if it were a scored verdict.
Why Kick-Off is the right first hour
The Closed Beta note asked players to learn the new rules before screaming for a patch. Kick-Off is the only mode where you can do that without pack luck or a 100-player hub:
- Load Competitive. Play a half defending with contain and interceptions, not Team Press in your own box.
- Shoulder-challenge side-by-side, then spam the input from behind and notice the arm-out slowdown.
- Double-tap Through Pass for a dink; double-tap Ground Pass and confirm it stays on the carpet.
- Take corners with Shielding and Avoidance. The ball will not magnetise you.
- If you have local friends, run Rush so the new dribbling and 1v1 defending show up faster than an 11v11 sim.
Then pick a real mode with Getting Started. Career players should set sliders after this session, not before. FUT players should not buy a Lengthy striker until they have felt the closer AcceleRATE profiles. Grounds players still need current-gen hardware — Lite will not prove The Grounds for you.
Upgrading from Lite
Stores keep an upgrade path to Standard (or whatever paid SKU is on that platform). Your Kick-Off settings should survive; your missing modes unlock. Dual Entitlement is a last-gen to current-gen story for paid copies, not a Lite feature. If you know you want 18 September, buy Ultimate now and skip Lite. If you only want to feel defending on Friday, Lite is the honest SKU.
Official storefronts: Links. Timing caveats: release date. If a Pitch Note adds another Lite mode before 25 September, it will be noted on what’s new. Until then, Kick-Off is the plan.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common EA SPORTS FC 27 questions.
When can I download FC 27 Lite?
25 September 2026 at 16:00 UTC on PlayStation, Xbox, EA App, Steam, and Epic. It is not early access and it is not listed for Nintendo.
Does Lite include Ultimate Team or Career?
No. EA confirmed Kick-Off as the preview mode. Career, FUT, and The Grounds stay in the full game. Upgrade from the Lite client when you want them.
How do I open Kick-Off in the full game?
From Home, select Kick-Off, choose a match type (Classic, Rush, or a Best Of series), pick teams, then set Competitive or Authentic before kick-off.
Should I learn defending in Lite or FUT?
Lite or Kick-Off first. FUT adds card pace on top of the Closed Beta defending changes. Use the controls guide during those friendlies.
